10/29/13

10/29/13

I gave my Physics, Calculus and the creative mind presentation.

Evaluation
Sarah--Five ways groups can fail

Good perspective on how the group dynamic works. Learned good information on how I can work better within my own group. Her handout was cool, went through it pretty thoroughly.

Maja--Left and right brain myths.

fun way to start off the lesson. We immediately began to talk about what kind of brains we had. I ended up being more right brained, but we soon learned that the right brain left brain debate was nearly false. Cool information. Powerpoint a little bland, otherwise awesome.

Benson--Origami

Awesome way showing us how paper can do more than mathematical concepts. I learned that origami is being involved in many different new telescopes technology.

Ankit--Thinking at more opportune times.

Taught us that we can spend lots of time thinking instead of moping around. There are plenty of times during ours days that are just wasted hours. taught us how to get past that.

Matthew--

We played the game of creation, it was really interactive and the group had fun with it

Topics-

1.    Physics and Calculus

Goals--

1.    To explain simple mechanics, differentiation, and integrals in an 8 minute span.

2.    To show how involved calculus is in everyday thinking

Materials—

1.    Open Powerpoint

Opening—

1.    Albert Einstein Quote
2.    Why I believe it is important?
3.     What Calculus and Physics I am currently learning.
4.      How it sparked my interest

First Slide—

1.Vector Calculus
~definition of multivariable functions
2.Define Integral and Derivatives~~refer to powerpoint

Interactive Practice

1.Take them to http://www.math.uiuc.edu/Courses/math241/quadrics/ellipsoid.html
~~INTERACTIVE WEBSITE THAT ALLOWS USER TO MANIPULATE 3D MODELS

2. Allow everyone to see different kinds of quadric surfaces. Explain which surfaces are naturally    occurring in our everyday environment.

Physics—

Explain simple mechanics~~how derivatives and integrals relate to acceleration, velocity, and distace over time.

End---

Ask for questions. Ask to see how each person sees Calculus everyday. Explain that it is not an arbitrary subject and certainly not boring.
